If you?re thinking about selling your Denver Wash Park or Mayfair home, you might be interested in knowing that last year, Jennifer?s average days on market for her listings was only 29.5 days and her average list to sold price was 99.5%! All I would have wanted was a faster iPad

I've mentioned this several times already on the iPhone & iPad Live podcast, in the new iPad round-table, and on Twitter, but I wanted to get something up here as well. The Retina display is great, but I'm not a designer or a photographer and I still read more on a computer and on paper than I do on my iPad. I have a Wi-Fi iPad so LTE isn't a consideration for me. Dictation is great and will make a huge difference to people who prefer to, or need to, talk rather than type. But for me, none of that is truly compelling. For me, instead of supporting a double density display or a faster network, I would have loved the extra power of that Apple A5X chipset and that extra RAM to do one thing and one thing only -- make my iPad faster.

Sales Training ? The Future - Business and Finance

The outdated challenges of gross sales training will remain as we come out of recession, to develop in trainees a excessive degree of communication expertise, self-group and a key understanding of the particular market(s) related to the salesperson and guaranteeing they implement the actions necessary to succeed. ?

IT will continue to dominate providing ever sooner entry to up to date information. This may allow gross sales people to provide clients correct information and feed data quickly back to base. This in turn means we are going to need salespeople who will be workforce members, and not loners. ?

As to the place the sales training perform should sit on a company group chart this is an attention-grabbing query, which begs the question about company attitudes to training in general. Organizations on this nation have been criticized for not taking coaching significantly enough. Specifically, the buck stops at the high ? the Gross sales and Marketing Director, if there?s one, the Chief Govt if there is not. The federal government has become more and more concerned in promoting training and training at all levels. At the time of writing it?s closely promoting leadership training and there are a number of grants out there to corporations desirous to specifically improve their leadership ? and this would come with gross sales leadership. ?

Continued training remains the accountability of line management, however responsibility lies also with the individual. To encourage individual responsibility some organizations have developed a system whereby the person sets out their own coaching programme. These are the so known as ?Learning Organizations?. In some cases this has given administration the excuse to abdicate accountability for training. This pattern should be reversed. ?

It is fascinating that all model chief firms still contemplate sales training as vitally vital, despite recent challenging times. Additionally it is a truth that the majority companies that have gone into liquidation had poorly developed training, or no dedication to coaching at all. Nearly with out exception, these corporations that invest in the training and development of their gross sales staff will let you know it?s an funding, not a cost. These individuals produce more enterprise, are highly motivated ? they usually?re enjoyable to work with too. ?

To ensure that somebody to turn into a top quality sales coach they need three issues: ?

1.?? The flexibility to relate to the extent of data and understanding of the pupil. Generally the most effective gamers make the worst trainers. ?

2.?? A great understanding of the function of a coach ? helping folks to learn ? not making an attempt to show how good they?re themselves. ?

3.?? Information of the subject. So to achieve the latter if not the previous, no less than 5 years sales expertise is needed, ideally in numerous markets, dealing with different products and totally different ranges of purchasers. ?

On the saying: ?When you can?t prepare, you cannot handle a gross sales staff?. I as soon as labored for H J Heinz, the meals firm, and so they used to put could be sales managers into sales coaching first. I think it is a good concept if it can be done. The human ego is likely one of the most fragile things on earth, and must always be dealt with sensitively.? ?

Training is the best proving ground for can be gross sales managers. They?ll learn to cope with people, the right way to get one of the best from them, and an entire host of other abilities that can finally stand them in good stead as a manager. ?

What proof is there that classroom based mostly gross sales coaching truly works? Classroom, if that?s the right word, is usually a highly efficient approach of imparting information and converting data into skill. This can be proved by setting studying objectives and measuring the trainee?s capability to satisfy objectives. ?

For instance, I?m a professional pilot, and I can tell you that classroom work is crucial to gain the data a pilot needs, and a simulator is a highly effective strategy to construct up skill levels.? ?

For salespeople, imparting knowledge within the classroom is a sensible manner to help folks learn and thru simulations you may significantly improve expertise and demonstrably measure these skills. ?

No doubt, gross sales trainers should be accomplished sales professionals, you need to be accomplished and educated about the subject. All our trainers are experts in their specific field. Actually DVD?s and different coaching aids assist, however my recommendation to would-be gross sales trainers is this. If you understand nothing about the topic, hold your mouth shut! ?

As for the Web, we?ve to do not forget that computers are machines and not human beings. So I count on human beings to be involved in coaching for so long as human beings have to be trained. It is also worth stating that one of many many benefits of head to head sales training is the elevated stage of motivation that delegates show when getting back from a course. This motivation stems from quite a lot of issues, similar to sharing experiences with others, and a feeling of private growth, however a whole lot of it comes from the course leader. Good sales trainers don?t just prepare, they inspire, and that?s something you?ll be able to?t get by browsing the online simply but!

Katonah NY Real Estate | 3 Ways Foreclosures May Impact Your ...

A new wave of foreclosures is expected to be coming as banks work through huge backlogs of distressed properties on their books. So what does this mean for buyers and sellers this year??

An article at Bankrate.com recently highlighted how foreclosures may be impacting your customers, including:?

1. Confusing the perception over price.

As Louis Cammarosano, general manager at HomeGain, says in the article, ?Sellers think their home is worth more than it really is, and buyers think the prices are too high.? Distressed properties are widening the gap between seller and buyers? perceptions over price. Why the discrepancy? Sometimes real estate professionals don?t include foreclosures and short sales when showing comparable sales data to home sellers but that might skew the picture. ?

2. Questioning locations.?

Buyers might see a home they like in a neighborhood with several foreclosures and short sales nearby, which may then make them reluctant. However, if investors are snagging up properties in the area, buyers might get more confident about their purchase.?

?Investors are interested in neighborhoods that were beat up by foreclosures and that have other redeeming features that they then believe will be the first to bounce back,? says Stephen Israel, president of Buyer?s of Edge Co. in Bethesda, Md. Homes near public transportation, highly ranked schools, and shopping and amenities could offer good ?bounce-back? values, he adds.?

3. Removing urgency.

The Federal Reserve has?taken the?rare step?of vowing to keep key interest rates low through late 2014. The result? Many buyers are waiting on the sidelines, believing they?ll be able to snag homes at an even lower price and still take advantage of a historically low interest rate.?

?The perception that prices could go lower, a lot of foreclosures in the pipeline and (the expectation) that rates will remain low ? that?s certainly keeping some people on the sidelines,? Cammarosano says. But interest rates and prices can change quickly.?

Forest-destroying avalanches on the rise due to clear-cut logging

Forest-destroying avalanches on the rise due to clear-cut logging [ Back to EurekAlert! ] Public release date: 29-Mar-2012

Ottawa, Ontario -- Scientists with the UBC Avalanche Research Group have been studying the impact of clear-cut logging on avalanche terrain in British Columbia. Understanding avalanche behavior and its destructive potential is an important factor in assessing risk of clear-cut logging of mature forest timber. An article just published in the Canadian Geotechnical Journal presents data collected from locations where avalanches have been released due to clear-cut logging; these data demonstrate the adverse effects of poor logging practices.

"The idea of this study was to be able to predict, in a probabilistic sense, how far avalanches can penetrate into forest cover. It is important not only in logging applications but also for land-use planning in general," says author Dr. Dave McClung of the UBC Avalanche Research Group. "The runout distance of an avalanche that penetrates forest cover can only be predicted using the methods in this paper. Avalanche dynamic models cannot be used for such an application since they cannot account for the extra resistance of forest cover. If facilities ? buildings, roads, etc. ? are below avalanche terrain, planners need to know the chances that destructive avalanches can reach such facilities. This article contains the methods and data for doing so."

Dr. Ian Moore, Editor of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal, commented "We greatly value research publications in the Journal having a practical focus. This study from Dr. McClung and his colleagues is a wonderful example of work of high scholarly value having very significant safety implications. The result will be management of resources to improve both commercial and safety outcomes associated with optimized forestry practices."

Irish Eyes Not Smiling Yet; No E-3 Visas | legal immigration ...

By Joe Guzzardi, CAPS Senior Writing Fellow. Guzzardi's Op-eds about California social issues have appeared in newspapers throughout California and elsewhere for 15 years., March 28, 2012

Now that St. Patrick?s Day has passed, the chances for Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown?s legislation to issue to 10,500 E-3 visas to Irish nationals may be over too. Brown had identified St. Patrick?s Day as the date by which he had hoped to maneuver S. 2005, the Irish Recognition and Encouragement Act or IRE, through the Senate. Instead, as of March 27, nearly two weeks after the parades have ended and the shamrocks wilted, S. 2005 has only 3 cosponsors.

The bill?s failure has mystified the media. In the days leading up to St. Paddy?s, journalists wrote glowingly about S. 2005 and pointed out that, if passed, it would reverse years of discrimination against the Irish inadvertently created when Brown?s predecessor, Teddy Kennedy, championed the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

Said Brown?s spokesman John Donnelly:

?For decades, the Irish have been unfairly shut out by our immigration laws while immigration from many other countries has sharply increased.? [Immigration Bill Draws Ire from Advocates, by Erin Kelly, USA Today, March 22, 2012]

Brown?s bill duplicates a 2005 program that allowed 10,500 Australians to come to the United States on E-3 visas. The E-3?s fine print may also include immigration status relief through waivers for some illegal alien Irish currently living and (possibly) working in the United States. In other words, for those Irish already in America, they would likely receive an amnesty.

Reporters incorrectly assumed that since the Irish are white and speak English, then Brown?s bill should be acceptable to Congress and Americans who oppose more liberal immigration laws?two groups that are also mostly white and English speaking.

The media?s superficial analysis confirms its complete failure to understand the patriotic immigration reform?s message. More immigration, regardless of the country of origin, creates more population growth and brings with it the attendant social problems related to larger numbers of people.

And reporters totally missed the IRE?s biggest drawback. Although Brown has advertized his legislation as one that will bring exceptionally talented workers to the United States, the fact is that Irish nationals can qualify by having a high school diploma (or the equivalent). In the event he has neither, then two years of work experience can substitute. Of the nearly 20 million unemployed or underemployed Americans, tens of thousands are high school educated. To import 10,500 unskilled workers from Ireland or anywhere else is indefensible and inexcusable.

While Brown?s bill appears to have stalled, our side can never afford to take anything for granted. Brown is likely to continue to push for S. 2005 during his re-election campaign between now and November. See CAPS legislative alert here and contact your Senators.

The transformation of an iconic brand ? A Business Innovation | Blog ...

Last Thursday we attended an event at the stunning Boodles store in the The Savoy Hotel, hosted by Brook-Dobson Brear. We were inspired by Michael Wainwright, Director of the British jewellery store previously known as ?Boodle and Dunthorne?.

Michael spoke about the transformation of their business and how they have reinvented their brand. We thought it was a great story of the journey of a business, very similar to the transformation our adviser clients have gone through in the lead up to RDR, so we?ve decided to share it with you on our blog.

Founded in 1798 in Liverpool, Boodle and Dunthorne became the city?s leading jewellers. After the sudden death of the Wainwright father and grandfather in 1945, sons Nicholas and Michael took over in 1992. Nicholas assumed the role of responsibility for creative direction of the company and Michael focused on developing the commercial side of the business.

With the growth of international jewellery brands, Michael and Nicholas knew they needed to become more competitive in such a tough market. Their vision was to become the British jewellery brand to compete head to head with the very best in the world. Driven by their desire to gain a more dominant position in the market, they started to look at developing their business and their brand. To drive such growth and achieve success they focused on a number of different elements within their business, and of course, their marketing.

Product

The original product strategy?was to buy in jewellery from a number of suppliers, including six very well-known watch brands. They realised that in order to differentiate themselves, they would need to achieve a more unique product offering. They took action and changed their strategy, hiring jewellery designers in-house in order to create more unique pieces and assign each a different name.

Boodles began focusing on the acquisition of rare and exquisite gemstones, as well as a highly talented in house design team, and the workmanship of leading British master craftsmen. Today Boodles offer over 400 different styles of jewellery, all from its eight main ranges including Raindance and Velocity.

Brand

The transformation of the brand began when the company was re-christened from ?Boodles and Dunthorne? to simply ?Boodles?. Dropping the second name they created a more simplistic, modern and luxurious brand image.

Image

Next, Boodles began to focus on their image in order to differentiate the business from their competitors. They achieved this through looking at all elements of their image, and in particular, the photography used throughout their printed material and in store. Boodles began using their own models for photo shoots, shown wearing the jewellery outdoors, amongst beautiful scenery. This provided them with differentiation from other modern brands that elect to shoot in studio settings.

Client Experience

Aware of the critical importance of the client experience, Boodles decided to look at every element then reengineer the entire process. Focus was given to new shop fronts and internal displays. In collaboration with architect Eva Jiricna, the Boodles stores were transformed into gleaming confections of steel and glass ? the perfect backdrop for sparkling jewels and far removed from the ?country house? exposed beam interiors of the past.

Boodles also began to offer a service to all customers to upgrade their pieces of jewellery, every ten years to a newer product, thereby increasing the longevity of their customer relationships.

Community

To establish their brand image within the community and strengthen their customer relationships, Boodles decided to host and sponsor several large events, bringing together loyal clients and raising their corporate profile. These events include ?The Boodles Challenge Tennis Tournament?, ?Chester Races? and ?The Boodles Boxing Ball?.

Each year these events prove to be a great success, creating a sense of community around their brand. The fact that the events themselves are referred to by the name ?Boodles? is further testament to the strength of their brand.

Brand Expansion

To increase their market, Boodles decided to move their business international. Boodles had been considering a number of locations for international expansion, including the US and the Middle East, but have settled in Hong Kong after identifying Asia as a boom market. Boodles managing director Michael Wainwright said that he will look to mainland China for the company?s next Asian store, Beijing and Shanghai in particular. He also said that he hopes to open a Boodles store in New York within the next five years.

As a further expansion of their brand, Boodles have also decided to move their products online, creating a ?brick and clicks? retail business. Research carried out by Boodles in regards to their target customer, highlighted that they live quite busy lifestyles, with an online store creating added convenience for them.

By focusing on the key marketing elements of their business from product, to brand, to client experience, Boodles achieved and currently hold a dominant position in the jewellery market, competing head to head with the very best in the world.

We feel this is a very interesting and inspiring story that looks at a very effective marketing and business growth strategy. It is very similar to the work we do in our business, with financial advisers increasingly trying to transform their business and increase client engagement, in a changing regulatory environment.

If you would like to read more information on the Boodles brand, please visit their website, where you will find more information on their business, history and products.

GOP Candidates, Democrats In Tug-Of-War Of 2012's Top Issue (The Note)

By MICHAEL FALCONE ( @michaelpfalcone ) and AMY WALTER ( @amyewalter )

SAN DIEGO - Republicans want to make this week all about President Obama's signature health care law.

Mitt Romney begins his day at a medical device company in California, and his choice of venue is no accident. On the same day that the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments over whether to consider a challenge to the individual mandate, he will be talking about the need to repeal and replace "Obamacare."

Yesterday in Washington, Rick Santorum, used health care as a weapon against Romney, arguing that his rival's Massachusetts health care plan served as an inspiration for the Obama administration's version, which has become the leading symbol for Republicans of what they see as government overreach.

"Pick any other Republican in the country," Santorum said of Romney at South Hills Country Club in Franksville, Wisconsin. "He is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama."

So far, Romney has managed to deflect such criticism, but with the issue of the constitutionality of health care front-and-center this week, Santorum is seeking to more forcefully tie his opponent to the Democratic-backed law. The former Pennsylvania senator plans to speak from the steps of the Supreme Court this afternoon.

But if Republicans want to frame contest in November around "Obamacare," and all it symbolizes, Democrats want to portray the Paul Ryan budget plan as a central example of GOP heartlessness.

In an interview yesterday on "This Week," President Obama's top strategist David Plouffe even went so far as to call it the "Romney-Ryan plan."

"If Mitt Romney's elected president, he'll rubber-stamp that budget," Plouffe said. "And here's what that budget is. It fails the standard - it fails the test of balance and fairness and shared responsibility."

And in advance of the vote in the House of Representatives on the Ryan plan, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has released a new web video titled, "Standing Up For Medicare," feature actor Martin Sheen protesting the GOP's "attempt to end Medicare and give tax cuts to millionaires and special interests." WATCH: http://bit.ly/GQ181Q

SUPREME COURT PRIMER. From ABC's Ariane de Vogue: On Monday the Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether it is premature for the Court to consider a challenge to the individual mandate, a key provision of the Affordable Care Act, that requires almost every individual to buy health insurance by 2014 or pay a ?penalty. At issue will be the Anti Injunction Act (AIA), a federal tax law that says, in essence, that a tax payer cannot challenge a tax, at a minimum, until it comes into effect. ?If the Supreme Court eventually rules that the individual mandate triggers the AIA, the court will have effectively punted the constitutional debate concerning the individual mandate down the road. It will have found that no challenge to the mandate can be brought until it goes into effect, which is after 2014. Because lower courts have divided on whether the AIA applies, the Supreme Court dedicated 90 minutes of arguments to the issue. http://abcn.ws/H3yCpr

"THIS WEEK" REPLAY: MICHELE BACHMANN ON THE 2012 RACE. Former presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., said she believes the Republican party will unify behind the eventual nominee, and does not believe they will be hampered by the ongoing primary fight. "I think the quicker that the Republicans can unify behind our candidate and make Barack Obama and his failed policies the focus of this election, the better off we all will be, but the people need to decide," Bachmann told ABC's George Stephanopoulos on "This Week." Bachmann has not endorsed a candidate, and did not say whether Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich should end their challenge to front-runner Mitt Romney. "Whoever the people choose, I will back that candidate, because I want mine not to be a divisive voice," Bachmann said. "I want to help unify the party and bring together the Tea Party element, the evangelical, and the establishment, and then reach out to independents and disaffected Democrats." http://abcn.ws/GS0DSQ

And, the "This Week" roundtable joined the roiling national conversation on the shooting death of unarmed Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, questioning the controversial "Stand Your Ground" law at the center of the case. WATCH: http://abcn.ws/GM7iwv

SANTORUM GETS FEISTY WITH NEW YORK TIMES REPORTER. Rick Santorum grew heated and accused a New York Times reporter of distorting a statement he made in an earlier speech, even yelling "It's bulls-t" to him, ABC's Arlette Saenz reports. Jeff Zeleny of the New York Times tweeted, "I ask Santorum if Romney is 'worst Republican' to run. He says: 'Quit Distorting my words It's bulls-t.' He says he was talking health care" During the speech, as he railed against Mitt Romney for his healthcare plan in Massachusetts, Santorum said the?former Massachusetts governor was the "worst Republican in the country" to take on President Obama. "Pick any other Republican in the country. He is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama," Santorum said at South Hills Country Club. Santorum was asked by reporters to elaborate on what he meant by the categorization, and he insisted he was talking about the issue of healthcare. Santorum increasingly grew agitated with the first group of reporters asking him to clarify his statement. "On the issue of health care. That's what I was talking about, and I was very clear about talking about that. OK? C'mon guys, don't do this. I mean you guys are incredible," he said. "I was talking about 'Obamacare,' and he is the worst because he was the author of Romneycare." The exchange with Zeleny occurred towards the end of the ropeline as Santorum finished greeting voters. http://abcn.ws/GQwcsn

PRESIDENT OBAMA TO NORTH KOREAN LEADERS: HAVE THE 'COURAGE TO PURSUE PEACE.' ABC's Jake Tapper reports from Korea: President Obama paused during his speech to local college students in South Korea Monday to directly address the North Korean leaders across the DMZ, urging new dictator Kim Jong-un and his regime to pursue a different path. Saying he wanted to "speak directly to the leadership in Pyongyang," the president insisted that the United States was "committed to peace" and has "no hostile intent toward your country." That said, Mr. Obama scolded North Korea, saying its "provocations and pursuit of nuclear weapons have not achieved the security you seek, they have undermined it. Instead of the dignity you desire, you are more isolated. Instead of earning the respect of the world, you have been met with strong sanctions." Mr. Obama urged the North Koreans to change their ways. "Today we say, Pyongyang: have the courage to pursue peace and give a better life to the North Korean people," he said. The president also addressed Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons, saying, "There is time to solve this diplomatically, but time is short." The speech, at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, focused on the Nuclear Security Summit that kicks of later today, with the president heralding progress made in securing the world's vulnerable nuclear materials. http://abcn.ws/H6sb4a

@robertcostaNRO : I had breakfast w/ Santorum and a few other reporters this morning. Big takeaway: he's energized and ready to ride anti-O'care msg to Tampa.

PRIMARY STATE SPEED READ

by ABC's Chris Good

-Ron Paul's Missouri Dominance Continues. Ron Paul dominated the Missouri caucuses on March 17, and that continued over the weekend. St. Louis City and Jackson County, which encompasses Kansas City, held their caucuses a week later than most of the state, and on Saturday both went for Paul: in St. Louis, Paul's supporters elected a full slate of delegates to the state and congressional-district conventions, and in Jackson they selected about two thirds of the delegates available. The raucous St. Charles County caucus, which was shut down by police on March 17 amid a dispute between Paul supporters and the caucus chairman, has been rescheduled for April 10. http://bit.ly/GYxX8S

-Santorum Bowls for Votes. President Obama didn't have great luck at the lanes in 2008, but Rick Santorum flashed better form if this photo from the Fond du Lac Reporter proves anything. A greater abundance of blue-collar voters could help Rick Santorum win Wisconsin, and he sought them out at a bowling alley on Sunday, where he told about 300 supporters that Wisconsin "can be a game-changer" in the GOP race. Wisconsin offers Santorum the most friendly territory of any April 3 primary, when D.C. and Maryland will also vote.? http://fondul.ac/GS3qhf

- Ron Paul to Rally College Turnout in Maryland. After Louisiana's primary on Saturday, presidential candidates will turn some of their attention toward Maryland's April 3 contest, and the Baltimore Sun notes that Ron Paul will keep to his college-campus strategy with a town-hall at the University of Maryland's Ritchie Coliseum on Wednesday, while Newt Gingrich may step onto the floor of the Maryland General Assembly while campaigning in Annapolis on Tuesday.? http://bsun.md/GU1Bx2

POLITICAL RADAR:

-Mitt Romney holds a campaign event in San Diego, California before attending fundraisers in San Diego and Redwood City, Calif.

-Rick Santorum makes remarks outside the Supreme Court building in Washington, DC.

-Newt Gingrich campaigns at a GOP dinner tonight in Delaware.

-Ron Paul has no public events.

Deep Thought is Dead, Long Live Deep Thought

On Tuesday, March 19th, Alan Jacobs posted a technology article for The Atlantic titled ?Jobs of the Future: A Skeptic?s Response.? In the article, he voices his doubts that a skillset promoted by the internet and social networking would usher in a new wave of future employment:

?Where are these jobs that will?require such rapid ?searching, browsing, assessing quality, and synthesizing the vast quantities of information?? We don?t need those skills to drive a truck or manage company accounts or sell clothes or do IT customer service or write novels or write code or give inoculations to patients or teach seven-year-olds how to read ? so what do, or what will, need them for? And how many of us will need them??

We might not need those skills to drive a truck, but if you are responsible for a whole fleet of trucks, you may need to search a database that tracks every truck?s location and cargo. Online retailers of clothes have huge customer databases that they can use to selectively target promotions to those they think would be most responsive to them. A typical call to IT tech support goes to a first tier agent, whose first task is to request your information so they can find you in a database. Then, when it comes down to the actual support, if they don?t know how to fix your problem, they search through forums, help documents, and bug databases to try and find an answer.

In my own field of bioinformatics, the trend toward ?searching, browsing, assessing quality, and synthesizing the vast quantities of information? is driving a shift of focus (more on that in a future blog post) that is real science, not science-fiction.? The advancement of machines that sequence DNA has progressed so rapidly that it?s broken Moore?s Law , and we can now sequence an entire human genome in a ?matter of weeks?.

All of these facts point to a single trend: our ability to produce data is outstripping our ability to understand it. In fact, the need to make sense of these mountains of information is so great that it?s given rise to one of the hottest interdisciplinary fields on the market: data mining and predictive analytics.

Data mining, loosely defined, is the process of analyzing data and shaping it into useful information. But how does a data miner know which piece of data matters and which doesn?t? They must cleave through those mountains of information in order to find data diamonds, and that requires the skills that Alan Jacobs questions.

Later in his article, he calls on employers of the future to seek individuals capable of slow, patient, and careful thought. Rest assured, these skills will not fall by the wayside. Let?s set aside the fact that we?ll always need this kind of thought to drive innovation. This kind of ?deep thought? (and no, I don?t mean the Jack Handy variety) is the next logical step after data mining, and it is called predictive analytics. Using a statistical skillset, analysts try to predict future trends in everything ranging from the business forecasting to political unrest.

In the field of bioinformatics, we produce more genetic sequence data than we can analyze. The fact is that before we can do any deep thinking about this data, we have to mine out the really difficult problems, to separate the wheat from the chaff, so we can turn them into diamonds. I suspect this trend applies to just about any field that collects data, and what field in this century doesn?t? As the clich? goes, knowledge is power, and this is one clich? that proves truer day by day.

So what do jobs of the future look like? Yes, we?ll still need truck drivers, teachers, and novelists. I won?t argue that their core competencies will include data searching, though they can all benefit from these skills. For the growing workforce that deals with data, however, these skills are mandatory, and of those people, it will be the deep thinkers who make that data precious.

The 4 Best Legal Arguments Against ObamaCare - Hit & Run ...

On Monday March 26, the Supreme Court will begin hearing three days of oral arguments devoted to the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, including its controversial "requirement to maintain minimum essential coverage." This requirement, also known as the individual mandate, forces all Americans to buy or secure health insurance under what Congress claims is its power "to regulate commerce...among the several states."

Twenty-six of those states, plus the National Federation of Independent Business and several individuals, are challenging the health care law, claiming it is an illegal power grab by the federal government that tramples the Constitution and undermines the principles of federalism. Senior Editor Damon Root lays out the four best legal arguments against ObamaCare.

Does Online Advertising Really Work? | Business 2 Community

Does advertising on the internet really work??? We don?t need more hypey, bandwagon talk here.? We need the truth.

In talking to different business owners, there are some out there who doubt that it really works.

There are some who are old school (?we?ve always advertised in the yellow pages? or ?we rely on word of mouth? we don?t need to advertise on the internet!?) who feel that traditional ways of getting the word out about their company have worked just fine, thank you very much.

Necessity? The Father Of Opening Up Options?

Unfortunately for them, between the lousy economy (where word of mouth is no longer enough) and the non-use of yellow pages by most people these days, these folks are being forced to consider other avenues.

I have also spoken to those who have tried advertising on the internet and have concluded ?it doesn?t work!?

If you ask me, ?does online advertising really work?? you may be surprised by my answer.

My answer is? it depends.? From what I?ve seen, it depends on where you do it? and how you do it.

Let me explain.

Ways Internet Advertising Sometimes Does NOT Work

One of the times where I have NOT seen internet advertising work is? advertising in the wrong place.? That is the focus on this blog post.? In my next blog post, I?ll focus on another reason you have little success when you advertise online (how you advertise).

There are many different places you can advertise online?the search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing), on websites, on Facebook, Linked In, and many other places.

Two Basic Places To Advertise

For this discussion, let?s focus on two basic places most businesses advertise online.? I will even limit the discussion to one main platform ? Google.

Google has two basic places you can advertise?

A.? On the search network (where people are looking for your products and services by entering keywords and ?Googling? something), and
B.?On the display network (those little ads and banners that show up on some websites).

A Huge Difference Between Places

The difference between these two areas is that the first category is full of people actively searching for solutions to their problems? which means your products and services.? Got a roof leak? You go online and figure out who to call.

The second area is called ?interruption marketing? because you are advertising to people on websites who are not looking for you at all.? They are doing something else?reading content on a web page.? You try to get their attention so they might consider your product or service.

This type of advertising works reasonably well if you are trying to reach a particular group of people.? For example, if you sell things to dentists, they don?t always search for dental things.? But, if you know where they hang out online (certain websites they visit), you can advertise directly to them there.

Don?t Make This Mistake? And Burn Through Your Cash!

Where internet advertising does NOT work (or at least is cost effective) as a general rule (yes Virginia, there are exceptions), is when a company advertises on general websites (for example, CNN), without trying to target certain websites that cater to certain group of people (dentists, automotive executives, small business owners, moms with young kids, etc.).

However, if you have a product that has impulse appeal (EX: Lose weight), you can do alright.? But, if you are a plumber, people won?t give your ad a second thought.

Unless you have deep pockets and are intent on ?branding? your business (getting general exposure so as to become memorable when they do need you), you must match who you are trying to reach with sites that cater to those folks.
