BBC Middle East Editor Jeremy Bowen will be the key note speaker at the second International Conference of the World Society of Disaster Nursing (WSDN) being chaired by the University of Glamorgan?s Professor Donna Mead, in Cardiff, on 23-24 August 2012.
The aim of the International Research Conference of WSDN is to showcase and share best practice in disaster nursing, engaging the full spectrum of nursing in a disaster context, and empowering practitioners.
Professor Donna Mead, Dean of the Faculty of Heath, Sport and Science at the University of Glamorgan said: ?It seems that not a week goes by where we do not see disasters affecting communities, countries and continents. We have seen the impact of earthquakes, flooding, fires and tsunamis on a global scale. I am proud to acknowledge the significant contribution which the nursing profession is making in meeting the complex healthcare delivery difficulties in these situations.
?In bringing together our global disaster nursing community here in Wales we can discuss, learn, explore and debate our profession?s contribution and share the best practice of recent times. Disaster relief is not merely about programmes of study; it is about humanitarian endeavour which is something in which all Universities should be involved.?
The conference, sponsored by CAE Healthcare, will bring together leaders in the field of disaster nursing, attracting delegates from 25 countries. The majority of delegates will be nurses, lecturers, medics and representatives from non-government organisations.
Aiko Yamamoto, Chairperson of the World Society of Disaster Nursing said: ?WSDN is an academic society designed to share, accumulate, and exchange knowledge and skill related to disaster nursing. The society was established in 2008, and had the first conference at Kobe, in Japan, in January 2009. Now we are going to have the second conference under the strong leadership of Professor Mead.?
The conference takes place at Cardiff?s City Hall on 23-24 August. For more information visit the website: www.wsdn2012.com
